Protective amulet to ward off evil spirits
"The bulla, or bulla, in ancient Rome, is a pendant, made of gold for the rich and leather for the poor. It is filled with protective amulets to ward off evil spirits. It was worn by Roman children born free."
Here, all materials are mixed and matched. Bulla expresses a universal protection and the need of individuals to mark their superstitions and projections in the material.
Pieces of material gleaned, inspected and then arranged together in a spherical composition. Contrast between shine and mattness, smooth and rough.
The leather scraps are waste from the luxury industry. The coconut cords are a family heritage from Madagascar. The embroidery is done on a hemp canvas hand-woven in the Morbihan by Aux Fils de l'Arz (the first weaving workshop listed in the inventory of rare know-how by the Ministry of Culture at the request of UNESCO).
- Unique piece. The piece was created in the studio, at Montreuil, by Marie Berthouloux
- The piece is framed in a window frame with glass and passe-partout. The frame is made in France.
- A certificate of authenticity is included.
